grocery store tips & tricks
The following is taken out of my e-book, A Beginner’s Guide to Holistic Living, found here.
Grocery shopping was the scariest thing to overcome for me, so I understand if this is where you get a bit tripped up on your journey. No worries! New territory can be fun and exciting if you look at it from the right perspective.
What helped me was thinking about it as a shopping trip rather than a grocery trip- going in when I didn’t have a list and didn’t need to buy anything specific. I would walk around the stores and just see what’s available, picking up an item or two to try along the way. I would suggest you start with this method.
The grocery shopping always begins at home. I keep a magnetized list on my refrigerator that I can add to throughout the week when I run out of something. Then, usually the day before I go to the store, I plan out the recipes I’m going to make and make a list based off of that. I create my list in sections that correlate to where things are in the store- produce, middle, dairy, frozen.
Always, always eat and drink water before you go! This will help you from impulse buying and from drooling through the aisles. It really does help you to plan ahead and stay organized. This way, you’ll be less tempted to fall back into old habits you’re trying to avoid.
Shop mostly in the produce section: buy fruits and vegetables that are in season, and purchase a variety of colors. Try new fruits or vegetables that you think might make a good addition to the recipes you’re trying. If seduced by junk food temptations while there, allow them to inspire a home cooked alternative for next week’s meal plan. The possibilities are endless.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through this post, I’m so glad you’re interested in a whole food plant based diet!! Please consider supporting me by purchasing resources for yourself, or consider having a one-on-one consultation with me! If neither of those interest you and you still want to support me, you can see what homemade goods and plants I have to offer here. Thank you so much!
